The UN and Israel

Try in vain to get the UN to do something about Israel. Hasnt happened yet, but you have to keep trying

Egypt and Syria urged the UN nuclear watchdog on Wednesday 19th Sept. to pass a resolution condemning Israel for possessing nuclear weapons.Israel insisted there was no basis for the resolution, scheduled to be presented on Thursday, and called upon the other member states of the watchdog International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to reject the proposal. On Wednesday, however, the Egyptian and Syrian ambassadors signalled that their patience was wearing thin.Syrian ambassador Othman complained that Israel was the only country in the Middle East "to have nuclear weapons and nuclear capabilities which are not under international control."

Israel is the target of at least 65 UN Resolutions and the Palestinians are the target of none.

For a full list click here

Aside from the core issues—refugees, Jerusalem, borders—the major themes reflected in the U.N. resolutions against Israel over the years are its unlawful attacks on its neighbors; its violations of the human rights of the Palestinians, including deportations, demolitions of homes and other collective punishments; its confiscation of Palestinian land; its establishment of illegal settlements; and its refusal to abide by the U.N. Charter and the 1949 Fourth Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.

There are 149 substantive articles of the Fourth Geneva Convention that protect the rights of every one of these Palestinians living in occupied Palestine. The Israeli Government is currently violating, and has since 1967 been violating, almost each and every one of these sacred rights of the Palestinian People recognized by the Fourth Geneva Convention. Indeed, violations of the Fourth Geneva Convention are war crimes.
So this is not a symmetrical situation. As matters of fact and of law, the gross and repeated violations of Palestinian rights by the Israeli army and Israeli settlers living illegally in occupied Palestine constitute war crimes. Conversely, the Palestinian People are defending themselves and their Land and their Homes against Israeli war crimes and Israeli war criminals, both military and civilian.

Having read the UN resolutions, it seems to me that there must be a sufficiently large number of Arab countries who are always able to get resolutions passed which refer to any agression of Israel towards its neighbours, but insufficient countries who are able to get resolutions passed referring to agression by its neighbours on Israel.

As I remember it years ago from the TV and newspapers, Lebanon was host to a couple of Arab factions who both were anti Israel. After many repeated taunts to Israel from the Lebaniese side of its border, the Israeli's finally decided to do something about it. They moved in to Lebanon in force and fought all the way to Beruit.

When they withdrew from there a UN peace keeping force was sent into Beruit to try and stop the resulting civil war between the factions then fighting for power in the capital and country.
Eventually it all settled down and Lebanon became relatively peaceful.

The militant factions including Hamas then took up residence in Palestine. During the past decade Hamas has risen to a point of gaining a majority in the Palestian government elections.
Having fought these people for decades, Israel must have been horrified.

During this last decade it has been much of a repeat of the previous troubles with Lebanon. the militant factions who want to get rid of Israel constantly taunt them until they react. Then they go wailing to the UN to condemn Israels' action.

Probably there are a reasonable number of Palestinians who don't really want any part of the running battle with Israel but are caught up in it because of their allegiance to the likes of Hamas who are providing them better resources than the previous government.

Whenever Israel goes charging into the Palestinain territory to clean out the 'Terrorists' it seriously damages the local infrastructure.
Then those people become even more dependant upon them for survival.

I really cannot see how there can be a solution to this. Everything Israel does to try and stop terrorist incursions and killings within its borders, it is condemned. Everytime Israel has made consessions in the past by giving up land its has acquired in battle, all that happens is the terrorists move closer.

It is probably more complicated than this because Hamas is not the only group who plant bombs and blow up Israeli civilians. As we have seen before, a truce has been agreed between Israel and the rulers of the Palestians only to have that peace broken by one or another of the waring factions.

Theoretically speaking, if Palestine were to become a stable country which could control all its people, including those militant factions, then Israel would have no need to pursue its policy of segregation with a concrete border.

I was reading recently that the concrete border has separated some farming communities from their land and livelyhood. Representation was made to Israel about this and it has agreed to reroute the wall to remove this problem. Maybe the contractors went about their business and the Israeli Government were unaware of the problem until a fuss was made.

Looking at the problem from a different perspective it could be that the surrounding Arab nations don't want peace between the Palestinians and Israel. It could be a convenient battlefield between religious rule of Islam against the Liberal Democracies of the West. For that matter the converse may also be true, that the USA is pursuing its policies of agreesion against Islam through its protege'Israel.

If you read the news reports issued by the Arab world they will of course paint a picture of their people being squeaky clean, butter wouldn't melt in their mouths, and Israel is the devil and the cause of all the problems. I am sorry, but I just don't believe it.

The 65 or so resolutions against Israel are only the ones that have been passed, which the US and the UK had no choice but to accept. There have been lots of other attempts to report the abuses by the Jewish state. like last year when they dropped nearly a million bomblets (cluster munitions) in the last days of the summer war, when it was obvious piece was in sight. The number of reports of abuse and discrimination are staggering.
Apart from the MidEast war when the surrounding countries got the guts to try and get rid of this tyranical state, it has always been israel attacking its neighbours with US supplied military hardware. If Israel could actually get through 12 months without attacking anyone, then there may be a case saying it is a nice place. But a racised state should never be stood up for, it makes the US and UK look disgusting to the rest of the world each time.

News Headlines
-Israel: Stop Forcing Civilians to Assist Military Operations
-Tank Fire Kills 5 Children in Gaza;
-Israeli Indiscriminate Attacks Killed Most Civilians
-Israel discriminates against its Arab citizens.”
-Palestinians living under ‘occupation’ have the lowest standard of living in the Middle East.”
-Israel's Assassinations Will Only Fuel more suicide Bombings

And like the Jewish guy said earlier, how do we benefit using collective punishment and turing 1.5 million people against us. All they do is make Hamas stronger.

Unfortunatley the list goes on and on about a state that has all the weapons it needs attacking people who only had stones. Now years later they have guns, but they still are no match against the Army that attacks them. Resistance is futile.

Friday

Iran's chief delegate Ail Asghar Soltanieh — like Arab delegates before him — also criticized "the continuous silence of the U.S. ... vis a vis the atrocities, aggression, bloodshed and violations of over 30 resolutions of the United Nations."

That, he said, is "shameful and a dark point in the history of the United Nations, and the IAEA and the modern century at large."

In turn, Israeli delegate Israel Michaeli, alluding to claims that Olmert acknowledged Israel's nuclear weapons, said some previous speakers "continued to lie."

"Those who call for the elimination of Israel" have no right to criticize "Israeli policies aimed at defending Israel's very existence," Michaeli said.

Soltanieh then challenged the IAEA to send its inspectors into Israel "to verify who is telling the truth."

The harsh words came after an attempt by Iran and Arab nations to submit a resolution on "Israel Nuclear Capabilities and Threat" was blocked by the EU, the United States and other Western nations.

Here is a good report, regarding the war crimes that Israel "The Great" did last summer.

Nearly all the War Crimes were Israel's
