A lot of mis-information is quoted regarding this person and translations that have been proved incorrect are still quoted by the west to this day.
Ahmadinejad, the son of a blacksmith, was born in Garmsar, near Tehran on October 28, 1956. In 1976, he took Iran's national university entrance exams (konkoor) to gain admission into Iran's top universities. His test score ranked him 132nd among over 400,000 participants that year,[17] landing him at the Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST) as an undergraduate student of civil engineering.
After the Iranian Revolution, he entered the Master of Science program for civil engineering in 1984. In 1989, he became a member of the Science faculty at the university where he had studied.[18] In 1997, he received his Ph.D. in transportation engineering and planning from the Science and Technology University. Even after being elected President, Ahmadinejad continued living in a simple apartment flat and eating meals brought from home, in his office. Both of these traits contributed to his widespread support amongst the poorer classes of Iran.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahmoud_Ahmadinejad

Interview
Iranian President challenges Bush to a debate
Bush would not be up for it, unless he had received the questions at least a month in advance and then still wouldnt.

The Iranians Presidents' interview showed him to be a clever politician, able to couch his policies in a manner which would seem completely innocuous. We have seen this many times before, particularly by ministers and foreign Secretaries talking at the United Nations, it would seem that butter wouldn't melt in their mouths. At the same time their relgious leaders are calling for Jehad against the Western Nations.
I am quite sure that a fair amount of what he said is true. The fact that he doesn't believe the holocaust happened means he is quite capable of ignoring well documented facts if it suits his political purposes. This then shows him to clearly be disingenuous. (Sorry about the big word but it means not frank or open, crafty. The American Indians used to say 'he speak with forked tongue.)
Militarily aside I think he is doing the right thing to build nuclear power stations if the main purpose is to provide electricity for the nation. This is something we should have continued doing in Britain and not have become frightened by the scare mongering of the environmentalists. But that is a whole new topic.

Thanks for you comment, but I have to say that this guy seems to be mis-quoted at every turn.
"Q: Do you regret denying the holocaust?
I had asked a couple of questions about the holocaust and I'm sorry that some European politicians and governments instead of responding to a couple of scientific questions by a university lecturer, they made it a political issue. I asked these two questions and I ask them of you now. First, if the holocaust is a historical fact then they should allow it to be investigated because we allow everything to be investigated"
He didnt deny the Holocaust... At the time, Iran held an open session to discuss aspects of it. Unfortunatley the conference was attended by a majority of deniers, which also made headlines in the Press.
The fact that it is an offence to question anything relating to the Holocaust in many european countries is wrong. Unbelievable to me really. Why can one not question what is fact and what is fiction.
So I agree with him, what makes this piece of history different to anything else?
Information on the Holocaust is in every library in the world. There are hundreds of thousands of people who are descended from survivors of the concentration camps who have this information passed down through their families. There are memorials at all the concentration camp sites in Poland. Records were siezed by the liberating armies which gave clear indications of the numbers of people who were 'processed' in the gass chambers and then burned.
What evidence and research does a university student need to obtain from another government to prove these events?
It may be that the subject is taboo in Germany as many of the descendants of those involved involved in the last War do obviously not wish to acknowledge that their ancestors played any part in it. This I'm sure is quite understandable.
At a diplomatic level I'm sure the polish government would be quite happy to accomodate researchers from Iraq visiting sites and researching documents siezed from the Germans. After all, many of the Jews who were murdered were Polish Jews.

I agree. I am sure the records exist.
If it was just out of interest in history. He may have just wanted to find out the fact from fiction, heresay from records.
I expect most of the problem and hoohah was because it was the Iranian President asking the question.
nb. from what i have heard from the deniers (moderate ones) they do not deny the holocaust but the amount/number of jews killed.
Here is a good post where a guy has some good questions.... I dont know the answers...
My Holocaust problems
No one is saying that it was not possible, nor that a lot of people died during the war! A hell of a lot of people died, from many faiths...
